The Museum of São Roque of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lisbon Institution, houses an important collection of sacred art that originated from the pre-existence of the shrine of São Roque, the church and the former Jesuit Professed House and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.

Reference should be made to a magnificent treasure, constituted by pieces of gold and silver, and richly embroidered vestments associated to the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist, which resulted from one of the most important commissions made by King John V. Also worth of notice is the impressive collection of reliquaries, due to its number, diversity and artistic quality, donated to the Jesuits by the ambassador of King Filipe I of Portugal, John of Borja, and the collection of oriental art, a fine example and testimony to the Portuguese presence in the Orient, as well as to the way how the Society of Jesus distinguished itself in the cultural and missionary domain.
