Patriarcal Reservoir

Located in the subsoil of Príncipe Real Square, in Lisbon, the Patriarchal Reservoir was designed, in 1856, by the French engineer Charles Mary. Built from 1860 to 1864, this reservoir with a quota of 67 meters became, back then, vitally important for the water net distribution system of the lower part of the city.

In 1994, the EPAL, Portuguese Water Company, rehabilitated the space, providing the reservoir with both visiting conditions and conditions for the accomplishment of cultural events.

In addition, it is possible to take a stroll on one of the underground galleries of this water supply system – the Loreto Gallery. This unique experience will take you from here to São Pedro de Alcântara, one of the most magnificent viewpoints of Lisbon.
