STEP BY STEP WITH ART AND SCIENCE. Partnership in Motion

The partnership “Step by Step with Art and Science” was designed to meet specific goals, namely reach new audiences, give greater visibility to collections and enrich the cultural programs of Lisbon, through an associative framework that intends to extend itself to other partnerships.

We call this initiative “Partnership in Motion”, because it shall extent itself to others and shall be coordinated with the social, economic and tourist agents that serve the same goal: take a greater number of visitors to museums.

In this context, the partnership with the company Metro emerged naturally. Our metro system isn’t only the fastest mode of transportation in Lisbon, but it also has stations in key areas of this city-route - between Amoreiras and Chiado -, and it is, in itself, a contemporary and modern art museum, with absolutely striking galleries for its boldness, beauty and artistic quality.

The exhibition will tour nine Metro stations for a period up to March 2014.

To celebrate this partnership, two events are foreseen. The first one consists of an itinerant photographic exhibition on the museums of this partnership. The exhibition will take place until March 2014, in nine metro stations.

The second event is based on the premise that our metro stations should be considered and enjoyed, not only as a means to go somewhere else, but also as a museum of modern art. Thus, the event 8 Museums/8 Stations was created.

This event consists of eight guided visits performed between metro stations and museums. This guided visit shall explore the artistic dimension of the metro galleries and the thematic links with the museums of this partnership.

What does the metro station Parque has to do with the São Roque Museum? The Geological Museum with the station of Entrecampos?... Much more than we can imagine!

These improbable connections will first be revealed on the 13th September, at 2:30 p.m., starting at the main atrium of the metro station Parque. From here on, on the second Saturday of each of the following months, a guided visit will be conducted by each of the other museum, starting at other metro stations.

Not to be missed.
