Pharmacy MuseumThe Pharmacy Museum allows visitors to understand the development of the Portuguese pharmaceutical history and its technology, from the late 15th century to the present day. Moreover, the museum recreates authentic Portuguese pharmacies from the former Apothecary of the 18th century to the Liberal Pharmacy of the early 20th century.

Reference should also be made to the authentic recreation of a traditional Chinese pharmacy from Macau, of the 19th century, and the section dedicated to the Military Pharmacy.

The subject of Pharmacy and Health is presented in pieces of extreme quality, representing civilizations and cultures so distant in time and space, such as: Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Incas, the Aztecs, Islam, Tibet, China, Japan and the European pharmacy from the Middle Ages to 1929, with the isolation of penicillin by the British scientist Fleming.

The exhibition ends with a display of the portable pharmacy used on the Space Shuttle “Endeavour” on its last trip of the last millennium (December 2000).
