Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras Reservoir

Once an essential component of the urban water supply system, this monument was planned to receive and conduct the water coming from the Águas Livres Aqueduct.

Designed by Carlos Mardel in 1746 and concluded in 1834, in the interior one can see the “Arca d’Água” with 7 meters of depth and a capacity of about 5500m3, and the waterfall living between two inseparable elements: stone and water. On the top part of the monument, there is a terrace offering a wonderful view over the city of Lisbon.

Due to its beauty and grandeur, the reservoir is a unique place to hold cultural events, enabling the Water Museum to make an important contribution to the development of different artistic expressions and to the promotion of culture.
